LONDON, June 18, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — ‘Can We Trust in AI for Education?‘, the final podcast in the AI in Education series, sponsored by Nord Anglia Education, is now available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Rose Luckin, professor at University College London and a world-renowned expert in the use of AI in education, led the discussion with Lord David Puttnam, Chair of Atticus Education and Chair of Nord Anglia’s Education Advisory Board, alongside Timo Hannay, founder of data insights company SchoolDash.

The podcast discusses preparing society for the next advancements in AI through experimentation and education, so people “can live fruitfully and safely in an AI rich world,” according to Professor Luckin.

Highlights from the episode:

  • On the need to continue advancing digital literacy, Professor Luckin said: “Teachers need to experiment and feel that it’s okay to try out these tools—even if they might not get it right the first time—so they have that space to learn together.”
  • Lord Puttnam commented on how important it is to “create an environment of trust within which AI can operate.” Adding that failing to do so could see AI turn into a disruptive technology in the same way that aspects of social media have managed to.
  • Timo Hannay said: “How we end up in a good place rather than a bad place with AI is by having healthy scepticism around it. It’s here—I don’t think we could uninvent it even if we wanted to, and I think it can genuinely be a massive force for good, not least in education.”
  • Professor Luckin remarked: “We know AI has the potential to revolutionise education, making it more personalised and accessible. With careful consideration, it can be thoughtfully integrated into educational practices to benefit both students and educators.”
  • Highlighting the learning opportunity across Nord Anglia Education’s global network of schools—which allows for AI tools’ impact to be seen on a large scale—Lord Puttnam said: “The great thing we can do at Nord Anglia is prove what can work”, which he hopes will influence the scale of AI’s adoption and its overall benefit to education.

CANNES, France, June 19, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — WPP (NYSE: WPP) and IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced the launch of a new business-to-business (B2B) solution powered by IBM’s AI and data platform watsonx designed to reinvent how B2B marketers identify and engage clients and prospects across the buying journey.

WPP Open for B2B will help marketers solve complex B2B marketing challenges, accurately identify and engage buying groups, and improve clients’ return on investment. Buying groups are made up of multiple stakeholders with different priorities who influence key purchasing decisions both inside and outside of organizations, which can make it difficult to deliver a consistent message over a long sales period. Traditionally, understanding how to adjust that message across the right channels to guide buying groups to purchase is challenging and often leads to inefficient marketing spend.

WPP Open for B2B is powered by watsonx – an AI and data platform designed to accelerate the impact of AI across businesses – and will bring together market-leading, proprietary capabilities from both organizations. WPP and IBM will strategically collaborate with LinkedIn to help brands better understand buying groups so they can market more effectively and reach target buyers.

Alan Webber, Program Vice President – Digital Platform Ecosystems at analyst firm IDC believes “this product and partnership have the potential to be an exponential force multiplier for the Fortune 1000.”

Stephan Pretorius, Chief Technology Officer at WPP, said: “Our clients want to get in front of the right people, at the right time, on the right channels, with the right message. However, most solutions in the market today are designed for consumer marketing, targeted at sole decision-makers at a single point of purchase.  WPP Open for B2B, and our collaboration with IBM and LinkedIn, will help solve some incredibly complex challenges in the B2B marketing space, using the best of WPP and IBM technology and expertise.”

Jonathan Adashek, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications at IBM, said: “B2B marketers have been focused on creating truly personalized, relevant and consistent experiences for buying groups at scale for years. Our collaboration with WPP and LinkedIn provides real-time, actionable insights that are based on trusted data. We are excited to create and use these new, powerful and trusted AI solutions to deliver a force multiplier for B2B marketing.”

Penry Price, Vice President at LinkedIn, said: “With success in B2B requiring customers to reach between 6 to 10 stakeholders, building relationships and ‘collective confidence‘ among the entire buyer group is key. We are looking forward to working with WPP and IBM to determine how our unique knowledge of buyer groups can help inform WPP Open for B2B and help clients deliver more effective advertising campaigns.”

WPP and IBM have used watsonx to build capabilities for the platform including:

  • AI-powered Buying Group Brain™ – a WPP AI model that can more accurately identify target buying groups in a B2B client account, built with IBM watsonx.ai and trained on trustworthy data from the client and third parties through IBM watsonx.data. It can also inform how marketers deliver personalized and consistent experiences across channels and across the duration of a long-term influencer campaign.
  • Orchestration and optimization – using insights from WPP’s Buying Group Brain™ AI model to optimize engagement and opportunity progression for buying groups. That includes providing recommendations for channel mix and content to ensure buying groups experience a cohesive, consistent and relevant message. It can also help marketers track marketing activity effectiveness with a buying group and adjust messaging or influencer targeting on demand.
  • Chief Marketing Officer command center – an AI assistant that serves as a command center for CMOs, bringing forward data and insights and connecting underlying systems so senior marketers can plan and model scenarios, predict results, make more data-driven decisions and execute recommended actions.

These capabilities are supported by the IBM watsonx.governance toolkit to help clients govern and transparently track the performance of the AI models.

Accelerating IBM’s AI-powered marketing and communications transformation

IBM has already begun deploying the new platform within its marketing and communications organization. WPP’s creative and technology expertise alongside the joint innovation on the watsonx platform is expected to support IBM’s objective to accelerate growth through AI-driven marketing.

An open approach with embedded governance

WPP Open for B2B powered by watsonx is designed for enterprise scale, security, governance and easy integration into clients’ existing systems, combining the open capabilities of WPP Open, IBM watsonx and Red Hat OpenShift1

IBM Consulting is the primary change management consulting partner for the solution. That  includes helping clients customize and operate the platform, integrate it into their marketing workflows and build employees’ skills and adoption of the platform, using the collaborative engagement model IBM Garage. IBM consultants can help clients select and deploy the right AI models for the platform based on their requirements, including enterprise grade models like IBM Granite, open source or other third-party models.

SAN FRANCISCO, June 18, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Cheetah Technologies, a restaurant and food distribution commerce platform, announced today the sale of their physical distribution business based in Pleasanton, CA, to Paul Jensen, 2nd generation owner of Palo Alto Foods. The company will be focused on bringing the technology that allowed them to scale their distribution business to the entire industry. With its features like digital product catalogs, personalized insights and recommendations, integrated payment processing, routing management, automated inventory tracking through point-of-sale integration and in-app support, the platform drastically increases profitability and efficiency of distributors, while lowering the carbon footprint.

“We built our restaurant application and distribution commerce platform to support our distribution business,” said Kim Spalding, CEO of Cheetah. “We saw firsthand how our platform upleveled our own customer experience and drove unprecedented NPS scores – 58 – in an industry that often averages NPS scores around 10. Over the last decade, the front of house of this industry has been digitized, while the back of house has remained unchanged. The food supply space, which is the largest portion of restaurant back of house, is a $400B opportunity. This is a larger opportunity than restaurant front of house which has produced more than $70B in market cap for disruptive start-ups. We’re going to seize that opportunity.”

Spalding, who had an illustrious career at Google, Starbucks, & McKinsey, joined the company in 2023 and with the support of the board, pivoted to commercializing their technology. She recently closed on an additional $14 million in funding and focused on vertical SaaS for the restaurant supply. “I’m excited to be scaling our AI-enabled distributor platform,” said Spalding. “Our decision to sell our physical distribution business to Paul Jensen was an easy one, as he’s a strong operator and trusted partner. We are now focused on scaling our platform into this exciting market and building expansions that will digitize additional workflows for distributors, restaurants and manufacturers.”

Paul Jensen, CEO of Palo Alto Foods, considered a pioneer in the adoption and celebration of organic products, said, “This is the best of both worlds. I get to continue to do what I have loved my entire career: helping independent restaurants succeed, but now with an even greater platform. With their new focus, Cheetah’s technology won’t just be an irreplaceable asset for my business, but will be an absolute game-changer for the entire foodservice industry.”

Palo Alto Foods is a business Jensen’s father started more than 40 years ago and began as a humble seller of local eggs. Jensen added, “As kids, my brother Eric and I worked side by side with him before eventually taking over the company. I can remember the landscape of Silicon Valley in a very different way. We’ve been fortunate to successfully grow with our customers, such as Google, Pixar, and Stanford Hospital, over the years. We are ecstatic about taking our business to the next level with this deal.”

The last shipment out of the Cheetah warehouse will be its software.

LONDON, June 19, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Schneider Electric, the leader in digital transformation of energy management and automation, has released white paper 133 titled “Navigating Liquid Cooling Architectures for Data Centres with AI Workloads.” The paper provides a thorough examination of liquid cooling technologies and their applications in modern data centres, particularly those handling high-density AI workloads.

The demand for AI is growing at an exponential rate. As a result, the data centres required to enable AI technology are generating substantial heat, particularly those containing AI servers with accelerators used for training large language models and inference workloads. This heat output is increasing the necessity for the use of liquid cooling to maintain optimal performance, sustainability, and reliability.

Schneider Electric’s latest white paper guides data centre operators and IT managers through the complexities of liquid cooling, offering clear answers to critical questions about system design, implementation, and operation.

Understanding Liquid Cooling Architectures

Over the 12-pages authors Paul Lin, Robert Bunger, and Victor Avelar identify two main categories of liquid cooling for AI servers: direct-to-chip and immersion cooling. They describe the components and functions of a coolant distribution unit (CDU), which are essential for managing temperature, flow, pressure, and heat exchange within the cooling system.

“AI workloads present unique cooling challenges that air cooling alone cannot address,” said Robert Bunger, Innovation Product Owner, CTO Office, Data Centre Segment, Schneider Electric. “Our white paper aims to demystify liquid cooling architectures, providing data centre operators with the knowledge to make informed decisions when planning liquid cooling deployments. Our goal is to equip data centre professionals with practical insights to optimise their cooling systems. By understanding the trade-offs and benefits of each architecture, operators can enhance their data centres’ performance and efficiency.”

The white paper outlines three key elements of liquid cooling architectures:

  1. Heat Capture Within the Server: Utilising a liquid medium (e.g. dielectric oil, water) to absorb heat from IT components.
  2. CDU Type: Selecting the appropriate CDU based on heat exchange methods (liquid-to-air, liquid-to-liquid) and form factors (rack-mounted, floor-mounted).
  3. Heat Rejection Method: Determining how to effectively transfer heat to the outdoors, either through existing facility systems or dedicated setups.

Choosing the Right Architecture

The paper details six common liquid cooling architectures, combining different CDU types and heat rejection methods, and provides guidance on selecting the best option based on factors such as existing infrastructure, deployment size, speed, and energy efficiency.

With the increasing demand for AI processing power and the corresponding rise in thermal loads, liquid cooling is becoming a critical component of data centre design. The white paper also addresses industry trends such as the need for greater energy efficiency, compliance with environmental regulations, and the shift towards sustainable operations.

“As AI continues to drive the need for advanced cooling solutions, our white paper provides a valuable resource for navigating these changes,” added Bunger. “We are committed to helping our customers achieve their high-performance goals while improving sustainability and reliability.”

Providing the Industry with AI Data Centre Reference Designs

This white paper is particularly timely and relevant in light of Schneider Electric’s recent collaboration with NVIDIA to optimise data centre infrastructure for AI applications.

This partnership introduced the first publicly available AI data centre reference designs, leveraging NVIDIA’s advanced AI technologies and Schneider Electric’s expertise in data centre infrastructure.

The reference designs set new standards for AI deployment and operation, providing data centre operators with innovative solutions to manage high-density AI workloads efficiently.

For more information and to download the white paper, visit the Schneider Electric website.
